You know, I’m just not totally happy right now.
Nothing specific is hugely wrong… it’s just that… everything could be (and has been) way better. Lots of missed connections, lots of misguided effort. Work is difficult right now, dating always sucks, I’m completely tired of men in general: talking about men, the media and its portrayal of men, men and their portrayal of… themselves. Voting. Corruption: who’s trying to screw you now. (Spoiler alert: it’s men.)
Beer, and how much we all love beer.
So much we could just cry.
The humidity here in Vallarta is off the charts right now and summer is coming to an end so my patience for being hot and sweaty all the time is waning, and half the shit in my house is broken or needs attention for literally no other reason than “salt air is corrosive and it’s time”.
Suffice it to say that for me every day right now is a bit of a slog, with new things that are “wrong” or “broken” added to the pile daily. I know I’m not alone in this; there is a lot of energy swirling right now. Lots of change, upheaval, disquiet. Betrayal. Lots of people are unhappy. Nothing specific is wrong but everything could be (and has been) better.
And what do we love to do when we’re unhappy? Bitch about it! I for one love to commiserate with you, and if you’re unhappy and I’m unhappy then let’s get together and wallow in our distaste for life! I love to disconnect from what’s left of my regard for a life which is pissing me off right now and really dive into the grrrrr of it all. Let’s do that, yes.
Let’s disallow improvement… lean into that disconnection from life. Feels so good to wallow.
The last couple of days I have woken up to my phone at less than 50% charge, and this of course adds to my low-lying irritation. My crappy phone is one constant on a very short list of nonetheless continual gripes in my life.
As a dot commer from Seattle, I see now that I am doomed to be eternally pissed at my Mexi-phone, and that’s pretty much the way that is. I have come to accept it.
This morning I woke up and realized that my phone in fact was no longer charging at all. The little lightning bolt, the zzzt vibration when plugged in… none of those things were happening anymore, so I knew that I’d probably have to remedy it somehow, today, because I can’t really be without a phone.
So, commence basic troubleshooting: start with the cord, the most likely point of failure and the easiest to fix.
I went over to the wall to unplug it and noticed immediately that the USB end of cord itself had been almost completely unseated from the element that plugs straight into the wall. There was no connection, electricity could not flow, so no charge was happening.
Talk about disallowing improvement.
Aren’t metaphors fun?
All I had to do was just plug that bad boy back in.
Et voilà.
