On growing up

2–3 minutes

Last Monday I was on an early morning itinerary from San Jose Costa Rica to Mexico City, and finally to Vallarta. Flight was leaving at 6:30am, and I was checked in and waiting by 4:00am. Because welcome to my life.

Anyhoo, at about 5:30 these teenage girls blow in, walk to the end of the narrow corridor I’m sitting in, hang a sharp left and proceed to hit literally every person in their paths with their carry-ons. On purpose. Just to be little bitches.

At one point one of them lifted her carry-on and then just ran it over the lap of a woman sitting there minding her own business with her family. They were awful.

We boarded a bus, to take us to the plane, which was literally 100 yards away. This we did twice actually, because planes are big, and relatively speaking, buses are small. And walking there is apparently not an option.

*ANYHOO *

On our way up the stairs, I noticed someone just could not avoid running into me. Jostling me. Poking me. I turned around, and what to my wondering eyes should appear? Our friends of course, the chicas who don’t know how to work their own luggage, now can’t seem to work their own bodies, and I appear to be their target.

At one point it got to be too much and I elbowed her hard, and she fell back into the crowd of people behind her. “Oh ooooooops. Sorry!”

The flight took off, eventually, and upon landing these bitches rushed to the front of the plane. I was in 3D, right at the front. They looked down at me and snickered. Why?

We deplane and now we’re walking through the airport in Mexico City. They have a number of motorized walkways, and plus I’m a superfast walker. I’m making great time, I’ve kind of already forgotten them.

I get on the motorized walkway. They decide to run next to the walkway.

One of them falls and smashes her nose pretty hard. She’s bleeding.

I stop to check on them.

I’ve been trying for days to figure out why they’ve been on my mind, why I even stopped to help them.

I get it now. I’ve been them a million times. Those bitches are me.
